Calvignano

Description

A small town of the Oltrepò Pavese area, Calvignano is a village of medieval origins, it belonged, in fact, to the Cluniac Priory of San Maiolo of Pavia, that ceded the fief to the Sannazzaro Family and then in 1371 to the Bottigella. In 1690, with the death of the last heir of the Bottigella, it was sold to the Counts Fantoni of Pavia.

Among the sites of major interest, not to miss:
- the Church of San Carlo, with a neo-Classical façade, totally rebuilt in 1860 on the ancient sacred building;
- the Castle Botticella Calvignano, which already existed in the XII century, it was a possession of the monastery of San Maiolo of Pavia; the current complex was built in the XVII century, by Count Giovanni Domenico Fantoni, on the remains of the antique settlement known as Rivalta.
- Villa Travaglino, vast agricultural complex which consists of a residential area with a small chapel attached, to which a series of farmhouses and cottages are connected, that form a large quadrangle shaped courtyard.
