Binasco

Description

Located halfway between Milan and Pavia, Binasco was known throughout the Middle Ages as the famous "terra do mezzo" (lands in the middle), the border village divided by a fossatum (Ticinello), ordered by the Lords of Milan in the XII century. The fief was ceded to the Castaldo in the XVI century and to the Recalcati in the XVIII century. In 1796 the town was completely destroyed and burned down by French troops. Of its glorious past remains the Visconteo Castle of the XIV, today seat of the Town Hall and famous for being the scene of the tragic story of Beatrice di Tenda, the wife of Filippo Maria Visconti, who was killed by him on a charge of adultery.
Not to miss: the Parish Church of Saints John the Baptist and Stephen, an XVIII century building with a rustic façade which preserves inside a altar piece of the artist Luigi Pellegrini, known as Scaramouche, and two works of the circle of Bernardino Luini
