Description

The Speri firm is marked by the wonder of nature, centuries of wine-making experience and the great passion of the men who created it. The family's winery was established in the second half of the 19th century. Since then, while considerably expanding the property and improving the quality of the product, the firm has continued to be managed by the family, considered a fundamental resource, making use of the precious knowledge gained from experience.

The Speri family produces wine using only grapes coming from its own vineyards, situated in the best Valpolicella Classica areas and covering a total area of 60 hectares. To best express the complexity of each individual subregion and to focus the characteristics deriving from local and microclimatic conditions, each vineyard produces its own wines. This has allowed the creation of single vineyard wines such as La Roverina, Monte Sant'Urbano and La Roggia, which take their names from the vineyard from which they originate.

With our work we wish to communicate the emotion linked to a wine, the beauty of its land and its ancient traditions. The idea that the quality of a wine is determined first of all by the vineyard from which it originates has always guided the activities of our family, which today still follows every phase of production, from the vine to the bottle. Aware that we enjoy an exceptional local heritage, we have always cultivated exclusively autochthonous clones from Valpolicella, a true expression of the area, with the ambitious scope of obtaining a perfect balance between the vine and the local area.

Long experience of making wine and continues research aimed at improving quality have led us to make use of systems with a high concentration of vine-stock per hectare and to maintain the traditional training system.

Another important study on vineyards led us to adopt the "open pergola system", obtained by making some strategic modifications to the classic "Verona pergola system", reducing the yield and favouring the best possible exposure of the bunches of grapes to the rays of the sun. In our field harmony between man and nature is fundamental: both work together in order to obtain the best from the land. The decision not to produce our most famous wine, Amarone, in less favourable years derives from this profound conviction.

We are proud to be farmers and we believe in the deep-rooted values of this culture: respect for the rhythm and needs of nature, enthusiasm and dedication to work and the importance of the experience of past generations.

Thus the history of an area, the culture of its people and the teachings of our forefathers come together to create an inimitable wine, which expresses the aroma and intense colours of the grapes, the congenial flavour of the land where it is produced and the authentic nature of the people who produce it.
