Teana

Description

It is a small town in the province of Potenza, a typically medieval looking town located between the Mount Caramola and Mount Volturino. Founded between X and XI centuries at the times of the Lombard rule and it became an important religious center with the Basilian monks, from Mercurion, that made of the Valley of Sinni, the monastic Eparchy of the Latiniano area. It became fief under the rule of the Sanseverino family, until 1343, when it was ceded in dowry when Eufrasia got married with Giacomo Missanello. In 1770, after four centuries of domain of the Missanello, Teana was ceded to to the Donnaperna family of Senise.
Not to miss:
- the picturesque Old Town center, with its typical medieval appearance and its castle;
- the ruins of the Lombard fortress;
- the Church of Our Lady del Carmine;
- the Chapel of St. Christopher;
- Palazzo Lecce;
- the rural Museum of Farming
