Town in the province of Matera, situated on a cliff overlooking the Valley of Sinni, Valsinni was known, until 1873, with the name of Favale, which means "land rich of springs". Even though mentioned for the first time in a document of the XI century, the remains of an acropolis and a wall of square blocks, evidence the presence of an ancient Greek-Lucano settlement, that date back probably to the IV century B.C. During the Middle Ages the town submitted the domain of the Sanseverino (princes of Salerno), the Vivacqua, the Capaccio, the Galeota and the Morra.
The old town is dominated by the Castle Morra, where the XVI century poetess Isabella Morra was born.
Between the parish churches of medieval origins, not to miss is the Church of the Annunciation
