Tagliolo Monferrato

Tagliolo Monferrato is a small town in the province of Alexandria, located along a ridge on the right hand side of the river Bormida, in Upper Monferrato. The town's name derives from "taliolus", which indicates an area that has submitted a massive deforestation.
With an edit, dated March 976, the fiefdom of Tagliolo was granted by Emperor Otto I to the Marquis Aleramo I; subsequently it passed to the Marquis Del Bosco, who maintained the domain till the early years of the XIII century, when it was granted to Genoa, who assigned the fief to Tommaso Malaspina. In 1431 the town was conquered by the Sforza and annexed to the Duchy of Milan. In 1452, Tagliolo was assigned to Stefano Doria, and later was assigned to the Gentile Family.
