Description

Florence is usually known as the "birthplace of the Renaissance" and "the city of the art": infact, the historic center of Florence was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1982. Piazza della Signoria is, no doubts, the heart of Florence, in addition to Palazzo Vecchio, the Loggia dei Lanzi and the Uffizi Gallery, one of the finest art galleries in the world; nearby there is Santa Maria del Fiore, known as the Duomo, built by Filippo Brunelleschi, with the Campanile - bell tower -, designed by Giotto, and San Giovanni's Baptistery. The Santa Croce Basilica contains the monumental tombs of Galileo, Michelangelo, Machiavelli, Dante (actually a cenotaph) and many other notables, the Church of Santa Maria Novella, the Basilica di San Miniato a Monte...and then Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, Palazzo Rucellai, Palazzo Strozzi, the Vasari's elevated corridor (linking the Uffizi to the Medici residence - Palazzo Pitti), Alla Pergola theater, the Accademia dell'Arte and the numerous libraries. A walk through Florence means walking through an "an plein air" museum, between alleys and Medieval and Renaissance buildings, arcades and towers that inspired the great poet, Dante Alighieri. A walk through Florence mens a plunge in the past, during the domination of the Medici family, during the Renaissance Age that made Florence synonym of artistic purity. In Florence there are also the two prototypes of artistic beauty, both female one (Botticelli's Venere) and male one (Michelangelo's David). Are you looking for a place where it is possible to conciliate culture, art and eno-gastronomy? Florence is the ideal place!
