Aldino

Description

Aldino (Aldein in German) is a municipalità in the province of Bolzano, lying on the plateau of the Regglberg mountain, at the foot of Black Horn and White Horn, set in an idyllic landscape of woods, meadows and "malga", few steps from the gorge of Rio delle Foglie (Bletterbach), also known as "Grand Canyon of South Tyrol", of great hiking and geological interest, declared by UNESCO World Natural Heritage.
Already attested in the XII century, the place name probably derives from a Germanic name, Latinized into "Aldius".
Affected by migration of population from Bavaria, today Aldino is a perfect location for those who want to be in direct contact with nature, away from mass tourism destinations.
Sites of interests:
- the Prehistorical site of Burgstallegg;
- the ancient cobbled street, close to the Karnol maso (farm);
- the ruins of Leiterburg;
- the parish church of San Giacomo, initially dedicated to Sant'Elena, of XIV century origins (although, the presence of a previous Romanesque style church has been found during the last restoration works) and modified in the following centuries;
- the nearby Sanctuary of Pietralba;
- Oclini pass, equipped with 4 ski lifts and 7km of ski slopes;
- Monte Corno Natural Park;
- the Geological Museum on Bletterbach;
- the interesting mountain paths.
