Description

Since its foundation in 1830, the Pasticceria Pansa in Amalfi is one of the most visited place on the Amalfi coast. Located right next to St. Andrew Cathedral, at the entrance of the main square of the Ancient Maritime Republic, the Pasticceria Pansa still preserves the charm and atmosphere of a typical XIX century cafè, with antique furniture, large gilded mirrors and chandeliers, as well as portraits of famous people who indulged themselves sitting at the tables overlooking the square (Quasimodo, Ibsen, Wagner).

The beautiful shop windows are a pleasant triumph of chocolate, candied fruit, almond pastry, biscuits, nougat, dry cakes and crunchy hazelnuts.

The counter the whole repertoire of traditional coastal and Neapolitan cakes: "pasticciotto amalfitano" (stuffed with black cherry, lemon or chestnut cream), Neapolitan pastiera, sfogliatella Santa Rosa (realized for the first time in the homonymous convent in Conca de' Marini), babà, caprese cake and lemon sospiri.

Listed in 2001 in Locali Storici d'Italia (Historical Places of Italy), the Pasticceria Pansa represents the confectionery tradition of the Amalfi coast, preserving and handing down the culinary secrets for five generations.

The Pansa family, moreover, run a large lemon garden, Villa Paradiso, located in the very heart of the Mills Valley in Amalfi: over a thousand of "Sfusato Amalfitano" PGI lemon trees, main ingredient for the preparation of cakes, candied peels as well as, jams and limoncello.

The list of teas and variously flavored hot chocolate is interesting too.
