Roberto Gatti was born in 1953, wine-dresser, of a wine-dresser, rural family in Cazzago San Martino, and a few years later he moved with all his family in Erbusco, true heart of the Franciacorta area. While young, he worked with the father in a popular wine company called Franciacorta; and later alone, for almost 20 years, as a responsible of the wine-cellar and vineyards. In those years he gets in touch deeply with the typical Franciacorta viticulture business and its peculiarities. Meanwhile, he experiences the latest wine-growing techniques, improving his background. In 1975 he married Andreina and together in 1990 they bought 10.000 acres of land in the districts on Adro and Erbusco. Also in 1990, he was offered the chance to run a small wine company, abandoned by previous old owners, and starts to make his own wine, initially sold draught. With the harvest of 1991 he introduces two bottled wines, a Terre Di Franciacorta red, and one white. The Ferghettina company had come to life!

And the following year Roberto, strong of his 20-years experience required. The target was always quality! At present time, the company manages 100 hectares (247.000 acres) of vineyard, planted in 6 of the districts of Franciacorta area to get the most from the different grounds, and getting unquestionable advantage in terms of quality. Among these acres, 65 contains Chardonnay, 8 Pinot Grigioin the business, produces his first Franciacorta, a brut, that still remains the top-line product of the company. In a few years Ferghettina grew at fast pace. Thanks to the positive reputation and respect Mr.Gatti gets, he could rent for a long period (20-25 years) several pieces of land where he planted more and more vineyards, paying attention to all rules and the rest contains red grapes varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and in small part Nebbiolo and Barbera). The yards are between 1 and 25 years of age. In fact, 20 hectares (50.000 acres) have been planted during spring in the last two years.

The total scale of non-fizzy wines and Franciacorta is growing. In 2002, on the first piece of land bought with his wife in 1990, Mr.Gatti started the construction of the new headquarters in Adro, completed in 2005.The new building, located on a sweet hill with a splendid panoramic view of the surrounding area, consists of three floors for a total amount of 6.000 squared meters. The main rooms are the ones for the income of the grapes and grape-squeezing, must fermentation and stocking, froth-production process and surlies aging of the Franciacorta, barriques room, bottling room, pouring and processed wine stocking room. A huge area is also available for visitors with a big fascinating room for wine tasting. In the company Roberto is now sided by his daughter Laura that got a degree in Wine-Making, his son Matteo also studying in the same field, his wife and 15 employees.

The yearly production is 300.000 bottles, including 4 types of Franciacorta D.O.C.G. (standing for Guaranteed and Controlled Origin): Brut, Satén, Extra Brut and Rosé and 4 dry wines including two Terre Di Franciacorta white, one red and an I.G.T. Merlot.
