Description

"From a rich and ancient tradition, the passion that animates the present" Terredora is a continuation of the ancient story of Campania, its people and their passion for their land and their winemaking. For Terredora the land is central to our family. It represents our soul and the driving force behind the winery, which is why, year after year, we consider the harvest our greatest treasure. TERREDORA has been on the forefront of the wine renaissance in Campania since 1978. This is a region that was famous for producing the best wines of the Roman Empire and Terredora is committed to re-establishing it to its former glory. They have been instrumental in reintroducing ancient grape varieties, promoting modern innovation and training the men and women who will be responsible for carrying their vision into the future. Today, with more than 150 hectares of vineyard land, Terredora is Campania's largest wine producer and vineyard owner, with a worldwide reputation for the quality of its wines. Their commitment to excellence was proven in 1994 when they decided to vinify their own grapes. This decision was prompted by their belief that great wine comes from the balance of natural resources: terrain, varieties used, climate and man's ability to work with nature.

Knowing that only through the direct control of all the wine production processes assures global quality which represents the origin of all great wines, in 1994, Terredora decided to valorise directly the grapes by completing its own production cycle. Montefusco was chosen by Walter Mastroberardino, his sons Paolo, Lucio and his daughter Daniela as the area where the wine cellar was to be realised because it was considered to be the ideal centre of gravity of their vines which were dislocated by rays. Montefusco was a village of antique history, once a chief town of the Principato d'Ultra, today corresponds to Irpinia. The modern winery is set in the natural scenario of Serra di Montefusco, at about 650 s.l.m. which interests three production areas D.o.c. and D.o.c.g. wines of Irpinia: the valley of the Sabato river for the Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo, the valley of the Calore river for the Taurasi.

The South of Italy is one of the most exciting wine areas in the world. Of the all regions that make up the South Italy, Campania producing some of the most exciting wines particularly the Campania sub region Irpinia. This is the place that is producing wines to compare and compete with the best in the world. And it's going to be achieved primarily with local grape varieties such as Aglianico, Greco and Fiano, instead of Cabernet, Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. The varietal wines are nearly unique to Irpinia, and their origins in the region date to the beginning of the millennium. The wines are produced from hillside vineyards and from ancient vines, many literally planted into the sides of dormant volcanoes. This assures that the aromas of the grape are not burned away during the hot summer days. They are cool-climate wines in a hot-climate region. The Terredora vineyards consist of calcareous soil and they all have a southern exposure with an excellent microclimate, on the windy hills of the region. Approximately 3000 vines per hectare are planted and trained using the traditional Guyot system for an annual production of 45 hectoliters/hectare.The harvest is hand picked and placed in small baskets with a minimal span between the removal of the grapes from the stem to the press. The indigenous grapes grown here are whites: Greco, Fiano, Falanghina and reds: Aglianico and Piedirosso.
