Villa Latina

Description

It is a small town in the province of Frosinone, located in the Valle di Comino, surrounded by woods and crossed the stream Mollarino and was already known since 1862 with the name of Agnone. The current name derives from the discovery in the area of several remains of Roman villas, in addition to those of a thermal plant and an aqueduct.
The first settlement was originally founded by the Sanniti (an ancient Italic population), that sheltered in these areas, after the defeat in 293 B.C., in the Battle of Aquilonia with the Romans. In the Middle Ages the town belonged to the Abbey of Monte Cassino and submitted the domain of the Lords of D'Aquino and of Cantelmo.
Sites of Interest:
- the remains of the Rocca (fortress) Malacucchiara, built around year 1000 and destroyed in 1439 by the troops of Riccio of Montechiaro;
- the Church of the Santissima Annunziata, in Baroque style;
- the XVIII century Chapel of San Domenico.
