Lona-Lases

Description

Lona-Lases is a small town in the province of Trento, set on the left side of the Cembra Valley. The place name derives from the two main villages of the town. Lona is located on a moraine plateau between the Monesi woods and the Dosso di Lona; Lases, indeed, is set on the edge of an alluvional plateau of glacial origin, among the rocky hills of Montesele, the Dos del Pin and the northern shores of the Lake of Lases.
Both villages are characterized by agglomeration in "a cormel" style, with clustered houses built in porphyry, with wide porches, balconies and roofs covered by slabs of porphyry.
The area was inhabited since ancient times, as archaeological finds, dating back to the Bronze Age, testify. Remains in ceramic, metal and glass, indeed, confirm the presence here of the Roman troops. Already mentioned in XIII century parchments, the two villages took part of the Mountain Community of pine until 1874, when the autonomous towns of Baselga, Bedollo, Lona-Lases and Miola were established.
Attractions:
- the Lake of Lases, protected by the establishment of a provincial biotype, is one of the most suggestive lake of Trentino, appreciated by swimmers, fishermen and scuba divers.
- the bell-tower of the ancient Church of Visitazione, dating back to the XVI century and demolished the last century in order to enlarge the main square of the town;
- the parish Church of Lases, dedicated to the Visitazione set the cliffs in porphyry of the Dos dal Pin;
- the parish Church of Lona, entitled to San Giovanni Battista, built first in the XVII century and, subsequently, in the XX century, wit frescoes by Vittorio Bertoldi.
