Civezzano

Description

Civezzano is an ancient settlement located on a natural glacial terrace that overlooks the stream Fersina, at just 7 km from Trento, near to the hills of Mount Talisio. This route of the ancient Roman road Claudia Augusta Altinate, which connected Trento with the Venetian lagoon and Central Europe. It is immersed in a friendly and very relaxing atmosphere, perfect for long walks in the open air and along the mountain paths, in addition, the presence of the Lake of Santa Colomba, located near the homonymous village, is a must for tourists in search of refreshment and a particularly pleasant landscape.
Sites of Interest:
- the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, one of the oldest and most famous churches in the Trentino, built by the Prince Bishop Bernardo Clesio between 1535 and 1538, on the foundations of earlier Roman and early Christian churches. The architectural structure features late Gothic and Renaissance styles and is decorated with stained glass and is flanked by a 64 meters high Bell Tower. The Church also preserves a series of precious Renaissance frescoes, artwork of Venetian masters, while among the furnishings of the church, worthy of mention are the four altar blades, depicted by Jacopo Bassano and children, and a great XVIII century organ completed by the artist Giuseppe Bonatti;
- the Castle of Telvana, built in the Middle Ages and altered several times over the centuries, so that it has lost its original architectural features assuming that of a private residence. It is today seat of the Town Hall. Near to the castle interesting Roman and Barbarian remains have been unearthed, including the Lombard funeral shrine, known as the Tomb of the Prince;
- the remains of Castle Bosco;
- the Castle of Seregnano (XIV century), once property of the Roccabruna Family, today privately property. The architecture of the castle is characterized by two square towers, which still preserve traces of the original buildings;
- the biotype Le Grave, not far from Lake St. Columba;
- the Eco-museum of the Argentario.
