Garniga Terme

Description

Garniga Terme (Garnigh in German) is a beautiful town in the province of Trento, set on the southern slopes of Bondone Mount, at about 8000m asl, surrounded by an untouched nature and typical alpine vegetation. It is the ideal location for a relaxing journey, where it is possible to enjoy both outdoor walks on the mountain paths and spa treatments, such as the "bath of grass", a natural remedy that draws its own healting properties from Dolomites herbs. Winter sports can be practiced along the snowy slopes of Bondone Mount.
Acording to the dominant thesis, the place name derives from the German words "gar nichts" (nothing), referring to the failure in finding mines in the area by German settlers, who arrived here between the XII and the XIII century; many of them, however, remained here, becoming shepherds, farmers and "carbonari".
Attractions:
- the suggestive Church of Sant'Osvaldo, dating back to the XIII century, set on a green hill overlooking the Adige Valley. It ha one Gothic style navy and a Baroque style cross vault.
- the Church of Sacro Cuore di Gesù;
- Albi farm, at about 1250m asl;
- Provincial Research Centre for Alpine Ecology, with the ancient barracks of Austro-Hungarian origins and the botanical garden.
