Terrasini

Description

Terrasini is a nice town in the province of Palermo, overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare. It developed during the Arab domination of the island and during the Middle Age it became a fief of the Monastery of San Martino in Monreale and, subsequently, of La Grua Talamanca family.
The Civic Museum is really interesting. It is divided into three sections: the Natural History Section (containing several important collections including the De Stefani one, rich in palaeontological, geological, entomological and mineralogical material), the Archaeological Section( with relics recoveed from wrecks found off Terrasini) and the Ethno-Antropological one (containing many examples of Sicilian carts).
The Cathedral, dedicated to Santa Maria delle Grazie and realised in 1684, is located in Piazza Duomo.
Finally we have to mention the lookout towers (Alba, San Cataldo, Capo Rama and Mulinazzo), the XVII century Gazzara castle, Palazzo Catalfi, seat of the Public Library, and the castle of La Grua Talamanca family, now Town Hall.
