Furnari

Description

Small hilly town in the province of Messina, Furnari was founded in the XIV century when Filippo Furnari became baron of an area where, soon after, built a castle. The village developed around this castle in the following centuries.
The Mother Church was rebuilt in the XVI century on the ruins of the Furnaris' castle; inside it is possible to admire a beautiful wooden crucifix of 1630 by fra' Innocenzo de Petralia.
We also suggest to visit the Church of Sant'Antonio (1700), the Church of Gesù and Maria (also called Church of Maria del Soccorso - 1600), the Pagana tower, a remain of the ancient Furnaris'castle, and the Fontana Vecchia.
