Sesto

Description

In the province of Bolzano, Sesto (Sexten in German) is a municipality located in the Eastern part of the region. Surrounded by the unspoiled Natural Park of the Dolomites of Sesto, the town is an ideal starting point for trips along the "Sentiero degli Alpini" (the Alpine Trail), the Val Fiscalina or towards the monumental Three Peaks of Lavaredo.
Although the town's name has obvious Latin roots, today remain only few traces of the past, as Sesto suffered heavy damage during the bombardments of the First World War. It is mentioned, for the first time, in a document of 965.

Sites of Interest:
- the natural Meridian of Sesto that, using the height of the peaks of the Dolomites of Sesto, provides an indication, even though approximate, of the exact time;
- the Parish Church of Saints Peter and Paul, in neo-Baroque style, which within preserves frescoes by Albert Stolz and two altarpieces by Cosroe Drusi;
- the Heideck Fortress (which was destroyed) and the Mitterberg Stronghold, both examples of military architecture of the XIX century;
- the Bagni of Moso, known since the XVI century, situated on the outskirts of Fiscalina Valley and at present part of the homonymous Sport-Kur-Spa.
