Located between the mountains of Sassolungo, Marmolada and Sella, Canazei (Cianacei Ladino) is one of the most famous resorts in the Alps, located in the green valley of Val di Fassa, in the province of Trento, the town offers to its visitors a splendid panorama of the Dolomites, the opportunity to practice several sports, thanks to modern equipments, as well as the possibility to take pleasant walks along the mountain paths.
In Winter, the four ski areas that surround Canazei (Belvedere, Ciampac, Col Rodella and Marmolada) are a true paradise for lovers of skiing and winter sports, while in the Summer, hiking and mountaineering enthusiasts can test their trekking and biking capacities, trying to reach the highest peaks along paths of varying difficulty. The environment also offers pleasant oxygenating walks, admiring at the same time the fabulous scenery of the lower valley along the banks of the river Avisio. Last, but not least, the impressive massif of the Marmolada, commonly known as the "Queen of the Dolomites", for solemnity and extension, and the unforgettable color change effect at sunset that, magically, tinges the highest peaks from white to pink!
Canazei, along with other towns in the Val di Fassa, has jealously preserved over the centuries its Ladin traditions and customs.
Besides the splendid "monuments" offered by Mother-Nature, which have made Canazei one of the favorite tourist destinations in the Val di Fassa, worthy of mention are the following sites:
- the XVI century Church of Our Lady of the Snows;
- the Church of St. Florian, built in 1500, which houses a fresco and two side altars in Baroque style;
- the XV century Church of St. Anthony in Gothic style;
- the Church of Saints Sebastian and Rocco, also in Gothic style, features two altars with Renaissance painted altarpieces in "false marble";
- the Church of the Sacred Heart, built during the Second World War;
- the Museum of the Great War, in which they are exposed to significant war relics, mostly from the front of the Marmolada, following the withdrawal of the glacier banks.
