Tires

Description

Tires (Tiers in German) is a small mountain town in the province of Bolzano, set in the homonymous valley; it is a popular tourist destination of the Sciliar Natural Park, located at about 1000 m. above sea level, on the footpaths linking the Siusi Alp, the higher plateau in Europe, to the Rosengarten dolomitic massif, in South Tyrol.
The place name is mentioned for the first time in 1080 and derives from the Latin word "terra" (land).
It is the ideal destination in every period of the year, both in summer time, enjoying the contact with the nature thanks to the numerous mountain paths, and in winter period, thanks to the nearby Dolomites Superski area.
Attractions:
- the small Church of San Cipriano, whose external wall paintings date back to the XVII century;
- the Venetian sawmill, dating back to 1598 and active until the Fifties of the XX century;
- the therapeutic waters of Bagni di Lavinia Bianca.
