Caldonazzo

Description

Nestled along the banks of the lake with the same name, from which springs the River Brenta, Caldonazzo is a municipality in the province of Trento, an ideal tourist destination, both in Winter than in Summer, due to its lovely beaches, hiking trails, bicycle paths, campsites, the green meadows and excellent cuisine. The crystal clear waters of the lake are ideal for sailing, windsurfing and boating during the Summer months and ice skating during the Winter.
Situated between the shores of the lake, the hills covered with neat rows of fruit trees and the waters of the river Centa, Caldonazzo offers several panoramic views out onto Monterovere, towards the valley of Centa and the plain of Lavarone, over the hill of Brenta, Levico, the Valsugana and the Winter tracks of Panarotta and towards Calceranica, which is located at only a couple of miles away. In ancient times the area was inhabited by llyrians and Euganei, until the area was colonized by Roman troops and became part of the Tenth Region of Italy. Certainly affected by the barbarian invasions, after the fall of the Roman Empire, it is necessary, however, to wait until the XII century to have definite information on the existence of the village of Caldonazzo.
Sites of Interest:
- Castello della Magnifica Corte Trapp, once the seat of the judiciary;
- the XIV Church of San Sisto;
- the charming old town, in typical rural Trentino style.
