The tonnara and the tuna fish

The old "tonnara" situated in the small port of Marina Vecchia is a proof of the ancient fishing custom and tuna's processing. The latter was a relevant part of Avola's income and the "ghiotta 'cca tunnina frisca" and "a tunnina 'cche pipi" are two of the most savoury dishes of the town. "A gghiotta", the Italianized translation of the Sicilian expression "a ghiotta" that literally means "for the glutton", is a delicious recipe based on onion, tomato and green Sicilian olives that can be used also for different types of fish. Ideal for those people in search of robuste tastes.
