Rasun-Anterselva

Description

Located at the entrance of Anterselva Valley, a lateral branch of Val Pusteria, in an uncontaminated environment favored by a particular exposure, Rasun Anterselva (Rasen-Antholz in German) is a charming tourist destination in the province of Bolzano, surrounded by the impressive mountains of the Vedrette of Ries and the Plan de Corones.
It is an ideal destination for trekkers with a series of mountain paths, and for climbers, that wish to the conquest the beautiful Dolomites. In Winter, for those who practice ski sports can take advantage of the tracks of Plan de Corones or the trails of Valley Anterselva.
The town's name, attested for the first time in a document dated 1050, derives from the word "palude" (marshland), while the German word "Antholz" means "in front of the wood."
Sites of interest:
- the ruins of Castelvecchio Rasun, built in the XII century and belonged to the Lords of Rasun and, subsequently, to the Counts of Tyrol;
- the ruins of Castelnuovo Rasun, built on the opposite side of the hill of Castelvecchio. It belonged to the Bishops of Bressanone;
- Lake Anterselva, the third largest in South Tyrol;
- the Church of St. John the Evangelist, built in the late Baroque style, although already documented since 1070;
- the XIV century Church of St. Andrew the Apostle;
- the Church of St. George;
- the IX century Church of St. Valburga;
- the Natural Park of the Vedrette of Ries;
- the Baths of Solomon, with its hot springs;
- the Heufler Residence (1580);
- the Goller Residence.
