Guspini

Description

For several historians the town's name derives from the Latin "cuspis" (tip), with reference to the shape of the hill, located not far from the town center. Municipality in the province of the Medio Campidano, located on a plain at the foot of Mount St. Margaret - Su Montixeddu, on the border with the province of Oristano, the town center of Guspini features a typical medieval urban structure: the area is extraordinarily rich in history and art. It is also famous for the production of handmade knives.
Inhabited since the Pre-Nuragica Ages, attested by the presence of the nuraghi. The area was later home of the Phoenicians and the Romans, until it was finally conquered by the Byzantines. The village was founded in the Middle Ages and was documented for the first time in the XII century, when it was incorporated into the jurisdiction of Arborea. Submitted to the Aragonesi, the whole area suffered a phase of decline. In the XV century, proclaimed fief, Guspini was assigned to the Carroz Family, while in the XVII century it was ceded, at first, to the Centelles and then to the Osorio. From 1383 it passed under the dominion of the Savoy and since the mid-XIX century, the town's history is tied to the presence and the exploitation of the mines in the area.

Inside is preserved a XIV century bell and an XVIII century organ;
