Manciano - Saturnia

Description

Manciano is located on a hill overlooking the valleys of the Albegna river. Owned by the Counts Aldobrandeschi, Orsini, the city of Siena and finally the city of Florence, it was an important Etruscan and Roman centre, as many relics found in the area document.
Do not miss to visit the Cathedral (Duomo), dedicated to St. Leonardo, patron saint of the town, which preserves some paintings by Paride Pascucci and Pietro Aldi, the most important local painters; the Church of Santissima Annunziata, built out of the defensive walls of the town, and the Aldobrandesca Fortress, which today houses the city hall. The Archaeological Museum of Saturnia and the Museum of Prehistory and Protohistory in the Fiora Valley.
Saturnia, ancient Etruscan town with Medieval defensive walls and the remains of the Roman Via Clodia, is one of the most famous touristic attractive of Manciano, due to its thermal springs, appreciated since the Roman period.
