Palazzina Liberty

The Palazzina Liberty, or Liberty Style building, was built by the town's medical officer, Dr. Raimondo Loi, in the early twentieth century. With its frescoed vaults and walls, it is a fine example of a prestigious residence of that period. Before housing the museum it was the headquarters of the Monteponi Mining Company and then, from the 1930s on, of the Town Hall.
The museum is divided into four thematic sections that allow visitors to learn about the historical, archaeological and mining heritage of the most important town in the Barbagia di Seulo area, which has earned it the name of ‘widespread museum'. The archaeological section features objects dating from the nuraghic period to the present, including a water-clock grindstone and a collection of coins from the Punic period to the Savoyard period.
Then there is the section with various miners' tools and equipment on display, which illustrate their difficult working and living conditions in the nearby anthracite mine.
The following section has all the documents (logs, memoranda and maps) belonging to the historic archive of the Iglesias mines.
Furthermore, the Fundu and Corongiu buildings and the Nurzula wash-house make a significant contribution to an understanding of the industrial past of Seiu, a past that involved hundreds of men, women and children for over a century.
The last part of the itinerary is the civic section, which includes a large number of photographs featuring portraits and views of the town, and an authentic reconstruction of a nineteenth-century notary's office with all its furnishings.
