Almond pastry, "le granite"
Almond, widely and successufully cultivated in Avola, from the second half of the XIX century thanks to Giuseppe Bianca, and lemon features the territory. In February the trees in full bloom are a really unmissable event. The most cultivated variety is the "pizzuta" since its fruit, the Avola Scelta is an excellent one and moreover, it is appreciated for its incomparable organoleptic features all over the world. Various and very delicious are the products of local confection. Really good and genuine are almost all almond based. The almond "ice" is a very refreshing drink. Little sins of gluttony are nougats, the white one is typical and delicious, little treasures of taste are almond cookies, eye-catching is frutta martorana, jewel of Sicilian pastry made with marzipan, and incomparable are the famous sugared almonds.
