The Church of Our Lady of Mercy
In 1583, the church had no sacred ornaments or vestments, though the apostolic delegate gave permission for ten bushels of grain to be sold to buy some candlesticks. The situation did not improve thereafter, and in 1612, it had to be restored. There was only one entrance and the church remained poor, so in 1714, Bishop Bonito amalgamated it with the parich church, despite the presence of the Brothers of the Seven Sorrows.
By 1714, the church also possessed an oil painting and a statue kept in a cabinet near the altar. It was then completely restored in 1771. It was not, however, till 1875, when the Brothers of Our Lady of Sorrows were there, that in addition to the bell in its small tower and the confessional, two oil pantings of Our Lady of Constantinople and the wooden statue had been placed in a niche. Even as late as 1913, the church remained substantially unchanged.
