Description

The Grassi family were already producing wine and oil in the 1600s on the enchanted slopes of the famous hills of Lamole, in the heart of today's Chianti Classico region, just above Greve. Generation after generation of experience and work have brought the Grassi family vineyards to the heights of qualitative excellence in wine and oil production.

Drawing on experience and long-standing values, in year 2000 Susanna and Maddalena set about creating Agricola I Fabbri. The name of the farm is a reminder of the blacksmith's forge in the village which overlooks the vineyards, for several centuries the Grassi family's second line of business after farming.

With Agricola I Fabbri the Grassi sisters wish to bring to the knowledge of a public of connoisseurs the superb quality of their red wines, fruit of 9 hectares of specialized DOCG vineyards - part of which on rich historic terraces - and their high quality oil, fruit of 2 hectares of olive groves, situated 550 metres above the sea.

Right from the start of our project and with growing determination, it has been our strongest wish to use plant health systems that were no longer solely chemical-based: that's why, for us, integrated pest management became a necessary step. Integrated pest management is the combined application of chemical products and biological systems for maintaining populations that are harmful for the vines below the "threshold of economic damage". The aim, therefore, is not to eradicate parasites, but to control them, tolerating their limited presence in respect of the delicate ecological balances that they help to maintain.

Due attention to Mother Nature then, for having been so generously and intensively present on our farms and a commitment to go fully organic in the near future.
