Sa Carcaredda Archaeological Complex (Villagrande Strisaili)

Situated in a holly oak wood at the Barbagia-Ogliastra border, the Sa Carcaredda Archaeological Complex comprises a nuraghic cult edifice, a large village and four so-called giant tombs. The religious sentiment of the nuraghic population is illustrated by monuments related to the ancestor cult and the rites related to the water divinity. The extraordinary finds discovered in the small round temple underscore the central role in Sardinian religion and commerce played by these mountainous sites during the Bronze Age.
