Part of the museum collection is kept in the Galleria Civica, or Municipal Gallery, located in the late nineteenth-century "S'omu comunali" building. This structure in the historic centre was for years the home of different institutions (a school, magistrate's court and the municipal administration offices). Many of the works on exhibit were created during the important painting and sculpture competition held in the town for several years. There are two exhibition circuits. The one outside is mounted on the winding city streets, where many of the modern sculpture pieces can be seen in the various museum sites. The indoor circuit, which is in the municipal administration rooms, has about 100 works by contemporary painters. In the council chamber are the most important works in the collection, including three seventeenth-century Caravaggesque school paintings.
