Casa Farci (Seui)

Starting off from the historic centre of Seui with its typical houses made of schist lining the winding streets, by going down Via Roma one arrives at the Casa Farci, the birthplace of the famous author and politician Filiberto Farci, co-founder of the historic Sardinian political party, the Partito Sardo d'Azione, and a close friend of Emilio Lussu. One can visit his studio, which has a library with his books and those of other great Sardinian authors such as Grazia Deledda and Antioco Casula (nicknamed Montanaru). The rooms house the tools of the most representative activities of the local community, which the citizens donated to the municipality by the thousands; they document the old production systems as well as the historic, artistic and cultural heritage of the town. Of the 7,000 or so objects, only 1,000 are on display according to theme and the various trades. Thus we find the tools of the trade of the farmer (su massaiu), mason (su maistu de muru), carpenter (su maistu de linna), shepherd (su erbegargiu-crabargiu) and blacksmith (su ferreri), along with the reconstruction of a 1920s forge. Standing out among these objects are the late seventeenth-century wooden winepresses modelled after one built in the fourteenth century; two donkeydrawn mills, one with a trachyte tub and the other made of wood; various ploughs; and an enormous still with the series number "Cagliari 0001". These are flanked by precious documents of past and photographic and audio-visual material. The section on emigration is especially interesting. It includes a document of the Bissiri brothers, who in the USA invented an apparatus that could be considered the grandfather of the cathode ray tube.
