The Brianza Lecchese
The Brianza Lecchese, once mainly an agricultural district, is now characterized by industrial and handicraft settlements. Yet despite these activities it has its own wilderness areas: from the last spurs of the hills to the banks of the River Adda (now protected by a natural park) and the small Brianza lakes. There are also many noteworthy monuments here: small mediaeval buildings (such as San Salvatore at Barzanò and the baptistery at Oggiono) very popular sanctuary churches (such as those at Montevecchia and Imbersago); magnificent villas of the seventeenth and eighteenth century (e.g. the ones at Casatenovo and Merate).
