The Ceresio and the surrounding valleys
A section of Lake Lugano lies in the Como province, a fascinating area where a number of valleys meet: Valle Intelvi to the south-east, Val Menaggio to the north-east, Val Cavargna to the north and Valsolda to the west. Each of these valleys has its own history, often echoed in literature (e.g. Antonio Fogazzaro's works which are set in Valsolda) and traditions (e.g. the boiler-makers from Val Cavargna). On the Ceresio is Campione d'Italia, a small Italian enclave in Switzerland, famous for its Casino.
