Amalfi Coast Overview 2007
"Wow", was the exclamation of wonder pronounced by an American tourist seating next to me on the bus from Salerno to Amalfi at the sight of the overhanging cliffs sloping down to the sea! His following exclamation was: "Incredible"!.
This simple word (also the strong point of Microsoft Windows Vista publicity) made me consider that when Paradise is handy, it is not appreciated! Nature has been particularly generous with the inhabitants of the Amalfi coast: I am thinking of the fertility of the land, the warmth of the sun, the closeness and freshness of the sea which prevents cold winters. To admire such beauties is a pleasure both for the eyes and the heart! Yet we are not good at making the most of our natural resources: in fact, we lack a local politics to promote tourism all the year round and a better cooperation among local authorities and tourist industry.
Even if we have the fortune of living in such a paradise we cannot ignore the urgency of a radical change in our way of making tourism.
It's a shame that our cultural, historical and natural heritage should be appreciated only by a few. That's why it is necessary to create all the premises to offer a better quality service and above all to improve occupation in the field of tourism leaving aside personal interests. So that one day tourists travelling to the Amalfi coast could appreciate not only the breathtaking view but also the kindness and friendliness of the local people. "Wow!.
