The Muggia-Portorose-Muggia Regatta

The Muggia-Portorose-Muggia regatta has been a valued sailing event for over 30 years, and is fully-entitled to be described as an event of regional importance. Well before the land borders fell, this competition was already called the Regatta Sans Frontiers to underline the happy collaboration with the neighbouring Slovenes. Organised by the historical sailing club Circolo della Vela di Muggia, it normally takes place in the second half of June and for several years now it has been one of the races in a sailing calendar which also includes competitions in Capodistria and Pirano: the Settimana Internazionale dei Tre Golfi (International Week of the Three Gulfs). The sporting activities - linked to the sea-faring tradition of the area and sports popular in the Gulf of Trieste - include canoeing and fishing, and of course there is ample opportunity to try local food and take part in cultural events.

Point of interest
The Circolo della Vela Muggia (Muggia Sailing Club) was founded in 1945 and remains one of the most active in the area, not only for organizing sports events but also for training younger sailors.
