Decugnano dei Barbi is a producer of premium Umbrian wines.
The Decugnano dei Barbi estate is situated near the town of Orvieto, at Fossatello di Corbara, in the old zone of production of Orvieto Classico. It is located on a hill facing the Orvieto rock at 320 meters above sea level. Its special and privileged position is perfect for quality production.
Decugnano dei Barbi's special and privileged location is perfect for quality production. The climate, the microclimate with its exposure to the sun and the soil of marine origin, marly, argillaceous, rich in fossilised oysters and shells of the Pliocene age, make it particularly suitable for vine-growing. The ideal ventilation of the vineyards completes the uniqueness of this location.
The philosophy which permeates our production is exclusively directed towards quality. In July, during those years when production is particularly plentiful, we harvest some grapes from the vines which are too laden in order not to damage the grapes quality and therefore the quality of the wine.
The endless research directed towards a further improvement of quality, the respect for nature, the love for our work, the regard we have for tradition, make Decugnano dei Barbi not only a simple wine but a cultural expression, as well as the expression of a way of living.
The constant care given by Decugnano dei Barbi for quality, innovation and technology, without forgetting tradition, can be noticed when visiting its large wine cellars. All equipment and machinery are technologically advanced. The wine cellars are also equipped with a computerised plant for controlling the must fermentation temperature and wine preservation.
The company also uses large and impressive caves excavated in the lavarock to produce the sparkling wine and to mature certain wines in special barrels. The constant temperature is always around 13°-14°C and the relative humidity is close to 100%. These are some important factors in the development of top-quality wine making.
