Description

The Antonelli San Marco property covers a single 170 hectare portion of land which is located in the vicinity of Montefalco, right at the heart of the DOCG winemaking area. The average altitude is 350 m a.s.l.. The hilly land dates back to the Pleistocene period and is partly alluvial, clayey soil that has good chalk deposits. There is also soil marl with good drainage and sandstone. The slopes have South and South West exposure.
The crops are distributed as follows:
Vineyards 40 hectares
Olive groves 10 hectares
Grain crops 70 hectares
Woods 40 hectares

The cellar is situated at the heart of the estate, directly below the proprietor's house. It was recently enlarged to incorporate a new system that exploits the force of gravity during the vinification process rather than using pumps. Our goal is to obtain a product of absolute quality. During every phase of production the characteristics and potential of the grapes and ensuing wines are controlled and evaluated.

The cellar is situated at the heart of the estate, directly below the proprietor's house. It was recently enlarged (2002-2004) to include an underground fermentation room on two levels. This room was created in order to vinify the grapes and subsequently separate the wine from the skins, exploiting the force of gravity rather than having to make use of pumps which damage the delicate grape skins. This is particularly important for the Sagrantino grapes due to their abundance of polyphenols and high tannin content. The bottaia - the wood ageing area - and the bottle ageing area were also built underground in order to ensure constant temperatures all year round. The current capacity is around 5,500 hl.The total wine production is about 2300 hl per year with a total of about 300,000 bottles.
