Description

Villa La Selva was originally owned by the Florentine De' Medici family in the early 1400s. It was built on the ancient remains of a fortified watch-tower which was used to defend the entrance to the luxuriant Ambra valley, situated between Siena, Arezzo and Florence.

Vines have been cultivated in this area for the production of wine since Medicean times, as demonstrated by documents testifying to the Medici family's predilection for the wines of the Ambra valley.

Villa La Selva is located at Montebenichi on the borders of the Chianti Classico district, in an area rich in pasture and woodland giving the rural landscape a wild, unspoiled appearance.

Today, in addition to wine production, the estate's completely renovated buildings offer excellent farm holiday facilities. The old farmhouses surrounded by vineyards offer visitors the chance to experience a unique, authentic holiday.

Villa La Selva aims to combine the Tuscan wine culture with an innate passion for pleasure and beautiful things by offering wines of exceptional quality and elegance.

These are the jewels of the unspoiled land filled with potential of the Ambra valley, reflecting the personalities, inventiveness and dreams of the people who created them.

Following a complete reorganization of the production resources, with the professional assistance of enologist Dr. Stefano Chioccioli, the estate has decided to produce two styles of wine: one typically autochthonous and traditional, the other with an international character.

The former, with a Sangiovese base, is representative of the estate's more arid microclimates and marly, stony, poor soils, more suited to interpretation by traditional Tuscan varieties. The international wines produced using Sangiovese as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, are the expression of the estate's Terroir with more compact and fertile soil and cooler microclimates. Both types are united by elegance and softness.

Villa la Selva covers an area of approximately 100 hectares of land, 22 of which are vineyards. Mainly Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and, in part, Malvasia and Trebbiano Toscano are cultivated on plots planted with a very high density of up to 10,000 vines per hectare.
