Description

Located in the heart of the Sassi, the Trattoria del Caveoso is carved from the very rocks themselves. Its cosy yet elegant surroundings are perfect for enjoying traditional local 'Lucana' (Basilicata) dishes accompanied by the finest wines available, including the renowned local red Aglianico as well as a selection of wines from all over Italy. The food and wine offered in the restaurant are sourced from the best suppliers, ensuring top quality fresh seasonal dishes all year round.
In 2006 the Trattoria was awarded the Badge of Quality from the national Chamber of Commerce for the high standard of its food and service. This assures you of the very best eating experience possible.

The Trattoria del Caveoso is located in the Sassi. We have many satisfied customers who enjoy the delicious food we have on offer. We pride ourselves on the variety of dishes we offer, from the best in local traditional cooking to the more avant garde. Whatever your kind of food, you'll find something here to please your tastebuds!
We can also organise a dinner menu based on fish dishes with prior notice.

The Trattoria del Caveoso is via Bruno Buozzi, located in the 'Sasso Caveoso' - the rocky caves at the heart of Matera's famous Sassi district.
The trattoria is open all year round. We close on Sunday evenings and Mondays.
The restaurant can seat 50 inside and 12 outside.
We accept all credit cards.

Wine production is one of the most ancient arts. There are many different wines produced in the Mediterranean basin, especially in Italy. This means that the Trattoria del Caveoso can offer customers a wonderful choice of the very best national and local wines available.
