An official seal belonging to Pope Leone IX dated 1052 establishes that this rare and unique castle already existed in the early middle ages. In fact, this magnificent stronghold situated in the Piceno area retains almost perfectly intact its original medieval structure.

Castel di Luco, set in a marvellous rural landscape and emmersed in wonderfully peaceful woodland, charms visitors from the moment they enter the fortress via the ancient stairway carved into the rock face. Laura and Francesco, the young owners, have also created four suites in the tiny hamlet beneath the castle. The couple personally welcome guests, offering them their own special brand of hospitality, authentic regional cuisine, and a highly contagious ethusiasm for a place to which they have dedicated heart and soul.

Visitors will not only be struck by the beauty of the castle. The hamlet which encircles the fortress, with its fascinating architecture adds to the authentic medieval feel of Castel di Luco. One of the buildings, constructed right against the rock on which the stronghold was built has been completely rennovated without altering in any way the original structure. This ancient dwelling dating back to the 1400s was once the residence of the craftsmen that served the inhabitants of the castle, and later transformed into a stable and hay-loft.

Today, the building houses four fabulous suites all with original brick paving stones, travertine walls, and magnificent wooden beamed ceilings. The suites, named after the grandmothers of the Amici family: Eva, Maria, Elena and Maria Teresa, all have marvellous views over the surrounding countryside. Whilst the stylish simplicity of the furnishings is in perfect harmony with the medieval ambience, no concessions have been made to achieving the maximum of modern comfort..

In the frescoed halls which have been transformed into an elegant restaurant it is possible to savour the authentic taste of the local specialities. Reservations required.
