Monterotondo is a small village in the township of Gavi; back in the Seventeenth Century it was a whole colonic complex surrounded by vineyards and including a cellar, a barn and a main house built by a noble family from Genova. The house gave hospitality to the farmers that worked on the estate.Today the same buildings occupy the Monterorondo Resort, a project born from the intuition of the Moccagatta family to promote tourism related to wine but also to exalts the Traditions and the Territory. Surrounded by the hills of Gavi, Monterotondo include the Villa Sparina winery with its ancient cellars and 100 hectares of vineyards, L'Ostelliere, a 4 stars hotel with great character and La Gallina, a fine restaurant dedicated to high quality cuisine.
Villa Sparina estate includes 100 hectares of land, of which 60 are vineyards surrounded by woods, ventilated by winds coming from the Ligurian Sea and exposed to the sun. Most vineyards are cultivated with Cortese grapes and are located on the Monterotondo hill while in Cassinelle, in a beautiful basin, 4 hectares of vineyards are cultivated with Dolcetto grapes under the Ovada DOC appellation. The prestige of Villa Sparina and its soul are in the recognition that Monterotondo wine is the most noble of the white wines obtained with a severe and attentive selection of the Cortese DOCG grapes and that the Rivalta, obtained from 9 hectares of vineyards cultivated with Barbera in the village of Rivalta Bormida among the hills of Aqui Terme, in the Alto Monferrato.
The superior 4 stars hotel "L'Ostelliere" is developed from the restoration of its original structure of the old farm house dating back to the seventeenth century. It was once used as home for the farmers that worked in the fields of the estate. L'Ostelliere is located on the Monterotondo hill of Gavi in a predominant position and faces a spectacular amphitheatre of vineyards and woods and it reflects the territory for its simplicity, with the utilization of authentic materials.
