Description

The Hotel d'Inghilterra has its origins in the most aristocratic and elegant period in Rome's history: monarchs, princes, artists and screen idols have always made it their home in the capital, attracted by flawless hospitality and an ideal location near Piazza di Spagna.

The original building dates back to the 16th century, when it was built to serve as guest quarters for the nearby palazzo of the illustrious Torlonia family. Visiting friends and compatriots of the poet John Keats, who lived in Piazza di Spagna, stayed there, and when the building became a hotel in 1845 it took the name Hotel d'Angleterre. Since that time the hotel has built a reputation as the preferred Roman base for an elite international clientele.

Strollers through Rome's fashion district head for Via Borgogna - described by the Los Angeles Times as 'the fashion street par excellence' - where the Hotel d'Inghilterra's exclusive restaurant, Café Romano, is just the place for a pause between boutiques. A favourite meeting place for Roman insiders, Café Romano is ideal for a light lunch, an elegant snack, or an exquisite tour through a world of delectation and high gastronomy. The restaurant is open every day without interruption from ten in the morning to past midnight, and customers can choose a table out of doors or in Café Romano's elegant interior, among 19th century paintings and modern objets d'art.

As befits an authentic private home, every room has its own style and character. Furniture and precious fabrics attest to a love of beauty and meticulous attention to detail, and are maintained by a full-time restorer. Each room has its own eye catching antique treasures - damasks and silks, Chinese porcelain and impressive Baroque mirrors. Bathrooms are in marble, and fitted out to state of the art modern specifications.

Every suite at the Hotel d'Inghilterra welcomes guests with a perfect balance of timeless style and unconditional comfort. Luxury is not simply a matter of period furnishings, carefully restored furniture and excellent fittings: it is a sense you absorb from the intimate warmth of the surroundings, from the beauty in every detail, and from the smile on the face that responds quickly to your every request.
