Naples Surroundings

Description

The Province is an enchanting area with age-old mystique. The sense of the past and the present living together is plain to see in all the tourist spots that have immense historical/cultural appeal. A stroll around the Vesuvius site will bring you to the huge archaeological digs of Pompeii and Ercolano, the "risen cities", destroyed by Vesuvius in 79 AD; a vacation or excursion to Capri, Ischia and Procida Islands.
A striking volcanic region made even more enigmatic by sulphur clouds, geysers, fumaroles and archaeological ruins. Between nature excursions, walks, diving expeditions and architectural explorations, there is no shortage of choice in the Phlegrea area.
The Province with its rich history and beauty offers a wide variety of local dishes. Home to the rum Babà, to pastries, struffoli and sfogliatelle not to mention the unforgettable pizza margherita. The entire area is typified by genuine flavours ranging from pasta and beans with mussels from the Torre del Greco to vermicelli with clams from Sorrento. These culinary masterpieces go perfectly with a traditional wine like a Lacrima Christi and Falanghina dei Campi Flegrei.
