Vo'

Description

The town's name derives from the Latin word "Vadum" (ford, river port). It is a municipality in the province of Padua, located between the Euganei Hills, whose territory, includes part of the slopes of Monte Venda and a vast plain that stretches to the channel of Bisatto, on the border with the province of Vicenza. The village is characterized by the presence of several beautiful noble villas. The city's economy registered a strong increase thanks to the production of DOC wines such as Merlot, Cabernet and Muscat.
The names of main centre and its districts attest that the settlements have Roman origins, evidenced by several archaeological finds in the area. Dissolved the Roman Empire, the lands remained without guidance and protection, easy prey for invaders. Documented information reports, that around year 1000, the area belonged to two noble families who controlled the territories: the Maltraversi and Da Vo'. During the XVII century the Serenissima Venetian Republic had built the centre Vo' Vecchio, seat of the Old Town Hall, whose offices were moved, in the early XX century, to Vo' Centro.

Attractions:
- the Church of Vo' Vecchio, an imposing structure with a classical façade delineated by columns, pilasters and ornamental motifs. It is divided into two levels, the upper one appears to develop from the tympanum and finishes in the façade below. From this rise four columns, the external ones end with a spire, while the internal one support a small gable on which stands a cross. On either side of the church open original mullioned windows. The building is flanked by a Bell Tower, partially incorporated into the structure, just behind the façade. This is also completed by columns and cornices that divide it into two distinct parts, similar to those of the main church. In the belfry opens a drum supported by circular niches and surmounted by a spire-shaped knob;
- the Church of Cortelà, with niches and cornices, incorporates a tall Bell Tower with a square base;
- the Church of Zovon with its Classical façade with niches, statues and tympanum;

- the XIV century Villa Ca 'Morosini;
- the XVII century Villa Ca 'Mariani;
