Description

Pozzallo is the only coastal town of the province of Ragusa; its importance goes back to the XIV century, when it began a commercial outpost for the County of Modica: here, in fact, the Chiaramonte family, duke of Modica, built there the so-called "Caricatore": a complex of warehouses, slides and piers for boarding goods on the ships. Subsequently, the Count of Modica Bernardo Cabrera built the imposing tower (named after him) in order to defend the "Caricatore", whose warehouses were always rich in wheat, against the pirates.
For its beach the town is considered a holiday resort, and has also very interesting monuments, such as palace Musso in art-nuveau style (beginning of the 20th century) and the Tower (14th century).
