Description

Regarding the origins of the town's name, there is no harmony in points of view: for some historians, the first part derives from the Latin name "Pomelianus", the gens (people) of Pomelia who were the landowners of the area), while for the second part, however, indicates that an arch was built in the area. Another school of thought links the name to the Roman name "Pompilius". Municipality in the province of Naples, located in the fertile plains, east of the regional capital, on the left bank of the river Regi Lagni, is crossed by the artificial channel of the Spirito Santo (entitled to the Holy Spirit). The town features an older town centre and a newer one that has developed in conjunction with the consolidation of the Fiat industrial center and the public Park, about 67,000 square meters wide, which now hosts musical events and exhibitions. At present the local economy is based primarily on the industrial production of cars and planes, while the second main income is represented by the cultivation of fruits and cereals.
Of Roman origins, the first settlement was founded when Labeone assigned the territory to the Romans, aiming to end the fighting between Naples and Nola, who were contending the area. Subdivided into lots, they were assigned to several noble families, including the Pomili. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the area was conquered by the Lombards and Byzantines and submitted a difficult period. Slowly, through the centuries, the settlers aggregated into small villages and gradually were able to free themselves from the domain of the local lords. After a period of certain autonomy the town was conquered by the Normans and was granted again to different feudal families, including the Filangieri, the Carafa, the Cattaneo.

Attractions:
- the Church of San Felice in Pincis, located in the historic main center, is of ancient foundation. It was restored for the first time in the first half of the XVIII century and a second time after a few years. In the second half of the XIX century the structure was rearranged in order to cover it with a dome. The building is flanked by a very tall tuff stone Bell Tower, whose construction dates back to the XV century. The church houses several paintings and frescoes, including a XVI century fresco depicting the Adoration of the Magi and a baptismal font of the second half of the XVI century;
