Here you can find info and tips about the area you are visiting.
It is a town in the province of Mantua, wedged between the vineyards of the Brescia hinterland of Lake Garda, in the Parco del Mincio. The earliest settlements date back to the Bronze Age, as evidenced by the finds discovered near a small lake-dwelling, whilst traces of Roman times have been discovered in the neighboring villages. An official document of Pope Eugenius of 1145 mentions for the first time, "de plebem Castellaro", which evidences the existence between the XI and XII centuries of the beautiful fortified town of Castellaro (district of Mozambano). Among the historical sites, worth of mention: - The village of Castellaro Lagusello, a charming fortified village near a small heart shaped lake of glacial origin, located at short distance from Lake Garda. The castle was built between 1100 and 1200 by will of the Scala family, Lords of Verona, for the defense purposes over the territory. At present remain part of the defensive walls, the four towers, a stretch of the walkway and two medieval farmhouses. - The Parish Church of San Michele, built in the XVIII century in Bavarian Baroque style, on the remains of an existing building; - The Baroque Church of San Nicola, which preserves inside a fine XV century wooden statue depicting the Madonna; - The noble little church of St. Joseph, with its precious paintings of the XVII century.
