Description

For some historians, the town's name derives from the Latin name "Metranus", while for others, from the Latin verb "mirare" with the meaning "lookout over the panorama", probably with reference to the presence in the area of a Roman watchtower. Municipality in the province of Venice, located between the Riviera del Brenta and the Venetian lagoon, the area of Mirano is crossed by several rivers, including the Taglio Nuovo, the Muson Vecchio and the Lusore, as well as a series of smaller channels. The exceptional abundance of water has made the area very fertile and suitable for various cultivations.
The period of Roman colonization, is clear not only in its name, but also for the typical rural subdivision (in "centurie") and the layout of the streets that are combined to create perfect angles. After the dissolution of the Empire of Rome, the area submitted the invasions of several Barbarian peoples. The Lombards conquered the area and assigned the domain to the Collalto: who, at the time, divided the territories between several Lords. In the first half of the XIII century the town was invaded by Hungarians and then found itself directly involved in the clashes between Treviso and Padua. It was later subjected to Ezzelini to return under the influence of Padua shortly after. In the XIV century, the territories suffered the attack by Cangrande della Scala and from 1331 onwards submitted alternately the dominion of Padua and Venice until it became a permanent territory of the Serenissima Republic of Venice.
