Marettimo

Description

Marettimo, the ancient Hierà Nésos, is the farthest island of the Egadi archipelago. It's a paradise with a superb and untouched beauty, suggestive sea beds and dramatic caves.
Marettimo framed the victory of the Roman army, led by Caio Lutazio Catulo, against the Carthaginians, during the First Punic War, and the victory of the Norman troops against the Saracens, many centuries later.
The castle of Punta Troia, built during the Norman period on the ruins of a pre-existing Arab tower, was also used as a prison.
